Peter Goodfellow. Illustrator on War of the worlds album cover
British. Middlesborough. Born 1950. Died 2022 (73)
Completed a degree course at Central school of art in London 1967- 1971
Started freelancing in the 1970s illustrating book jackets working on Arthur C. Clark`s Tales from the white hart.
In 1978 Goodfellow created works for sci-fi king Phillip K. Dick, designing some of his book covers. Goodfellow then found his big one with Jeff Waynes War of the worlds. Creating the most beautifully eerie landscape scenes for the album cover of the production.
Goodfellow also wrote a book alongside David Starkey, Roger Scruton and Duncan Macmillan published on 30/09/2015 called Treason of the scholars where he slates contemporary artists Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst by claiming they are destroying the quality of the craft. Rude. It is a shame learning this as I really appreciate the scenes he painted for the War of the worlds album cover and inside book but I also appreciate Tracey Emin`s opinions and view on real life topics.

The Miner I feel now looks more like a farmer in a field but still fits in well here. I love the ominous mist over the landscape.
Geoff Taylor. Illustrator on War of the worlds album cover.
British. Lancaster. Born 1946
Earning his education at Eckington Westfield School in Sheffield and studied a graphic design course at Chesterfield school of Art. Taylor worked in Nottingham for 5 years in advertising agencies then turned to illustration and book cover art. Also working with Phillip K. Dick in this sci-fi fantasy illustrative style and other fiction/fantasy writers including JRR Tolkien, Raymond E. Feist and Katharine Kerr to mention a few. Taylor was one of the original illustrators to work on war of the worlds. In 1991 he has produced some inspiring fantasy imagery for Games Workshop and their distinctive Warhammer world. Taylor is most known for his wildlife art and wolf paintings.
Some of the delicate buildings Taylor painted on one full page (2 pages) is incredibly deep with an immaculate foreshortening perspective of a street with factories and tall buildings and towering construction.
I feel our miner looks great here with some sepia style filter I put over the top just while playing with some apps on my phone.
Another painting for WOTW by Geoff Taylor. I love it but it is definitely not suitable for our miner. This album is very nostalgic for me especially when played on a crackly old record player. This audio is made even more eery when played this way in my opinion.
I WANT SOMETHING MORE ABSTRACT ......
WHAT OTHER ALBUM COVERS DO I ENJOY?
