Psychedelic art

Image
I have taken a interest lately in looking at Psychedelic art, the artists who produce this work and what there processes are. I was a lover of metal music once upon a time and the band Tool where played often in my headphones. Listening to some of the albums and appreciating some of the art work on the album painted by the infamous Alex Grey who designed the album covers of tools 10,000 days and Lateralus.  The Sear. Alex Grey. Acrylic on wood Sacred visions series  The Creative Process According to Alex Grey (substack.com)   not to mention some of music videos that were created by a band member Adam Jones where he created creepy stop motion videos. Clay models and dioramas where used in a morbid dark fashion.  https://youtu.be/cUPV4OfNlt0?si=WjKJtWQFbN6W3cRu

‘Ode to…’ Created by Graham Elstone A piece about a busker playing music to the public with little to no reward yet he still continues to make music. Graham invites the public to release the busker in themselves with this interactive piece.  Graham Elstone works as an artist, creative educator and project manager. Projects and creative work are exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally. His works involve digital arts, installation, performance and mixed media.  Elstone's artwork has been shown in galleries, theatres and at festivals. Much of his work is made for public spaces and unusual settings, including shop fronts, disused buildings, streets, rural landscapes and other public buildings.  Much of Elstone`s work requires interaction from audiences to explore and participate. When Graham came to give us a talk he spoke about a wide range of options and was happy to share with us hints and tips that have helped him along his path. He told us to think about all the possi

www.kerrydilksillustration.com  author and illustrator  Kerry shared with us that she had shown creative sights from an early age and had a arty upbringing. Living in Iilkston, Derbyshire all her live and loving her location. Growing up she studied media studies at royal Holloway but did not enjoy it and felt as though the wrong path had been chosen. Kerry then chose a art foundation course and found this really enjoyable and welcoming. Kerry was being encouraged by a tutor there to take a look at illustration and she took a big interest in this. Finding inspiration in children's books and looking at artists such as Judith Kerr, Shirley Hughes, Raymond briggs. She then joined a illustration course at Derby university but left disappointed and continued to work on her own portfolio. Kerry used Gofundme to make money for her first self published book called `The greatest cake` and from then on has made 3 other books. Kerry is a children`s picture book illustration`s and her work unfo

Chat with Paul keen local artist.  Back where I've lived most of my life in Peterborough/Stamford are a few fellow artists I have had the privilege or working alongside and spilt a few beers with. One chap in particular called Paul Keen had an exhibition on in the Peterborough museum and so i decided to go take a peek and show some support. Me and Paul have worked together before with a group of other artists in the area and this gig was my first live paint jam all held together by a legendary gent called Kaine who owns Korp Academy and help live paint jams open to the public in and around Peterborough and Stamford. Now Kaine runs the Korp Academy teaching incredibly unique styled drawing lessons for adults and even children in the school holidays in cohorts with the local art council and government funding to support childcare funding for those in need. What an absolute heart stealer he is. Go check him out here  KORP - Home (korporate.co.uk)  Moving back to Paul Keen and this exp

Documenting my processes. End of year show.

Throughout this project I have used a collection of different materials and processes to pull together my final outcome. Practicing further on my painting skills and drawing techniques. Practising  the human form especially hands. Taking photographs of my own hand in a certain position using my camera phone and then using that image as my reference. (pic of hands on phone next to the canvas)  Working with 3D and swinging back into costume design making masks. Masks are another way we hide emotions. We all wear masks. I am hoping to experiment more with 3d next year. This time i used mod rock to make some masks that did not make it into the exhibition but they were still interesting to create especially using sigil symbols on them. I used a glass manniquin head to build the mask shape with modrock. The mask was then painted and i used posca pen for the sigils and design. This mask i called "lil dawg" I created using a plastic base of a cheap prop mask, cutting into it using a
