Documenting my processes. End of year show.

Throughout this project I have used a collection of different materials and processes to pull together my final outcome. Practicing further on my painting skills and drawing techniques. Practising  the human form especially hands. Taking photographs of my own hand in a certain position using my camera phone and then using that image as my reference. (pic of hands on phone next to the canvas)

Working with 3D and swinging back into costume design making masks. Masks are another way we hide emotions. We all wear masks. I am hoping to experiment more with 3d next year. This time i used mod rock to make some masks that did not make it into the exhibition but they were still interesting to create especially using sigil symbols on them. I used a glass manniquin head to build the mask shape with modrock. The mask was then painted and i used posca pen for the sigils and design.

This mask i called "lil dawg" I created using a plastic base of a cheap prop mask, cutting into it using a craft knife, adding cardboard for a differnt structure around the nostril area and ears. I then felt I wanted a dark overall look, slightly old school leather daddy gay bear aesthetic. I found some very nice pvc looking tape and covered the mask surface with this then adorning the mask with pearcings using my own jewelery and come metal rings you would usually have on a set of keys. I added a big chunky unpolished chain that is secured to hand directly under the mask to act as a lead around a neck. I am very pleased with the outcome, my only issue is how untidy the tape looks but ive learnt to let that go as i can see ive got the main point across. Which i have learnt throughout this project on some of the other pieces.

Cardboard was the best invention! I love working with cardboard, especially if its corrugated, ooooh that texture, but with perfect lines! I enjoy precision cutting and peeling back layers of the cardboard. Painting up to neat edges and enjoying the sensory pleasures from an alternating smooth then corrugated surface and look at how that can work with main pictures in a foreground.

Iam not sure how to make this video play. It shows a section of the picture where i have cut into the first layer of the cardboard in neat lines and then peeled back for that sweet reveal.
